Do I Have to Pay Tax on Capital Gains in Missouri?

Good news for investors who are residents of Missouri! On July 10, 2025, Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe signed House Bill 594, which will exempt both short- and long-term capital gains from Missouri individual income tax.

Under the new law, individuals subject to Missouri income tax will be allowed to deduct 100% of all income reported as a capital gain for federal income tax purposes when calculating their Missouri taxable income for all tax years starting on or after Jan. 1, 2025.

We recommend consulting with a tax professional or your financial advisor if you have questions regarding how this might impact you.
